Dive Watch, Reinvented – The SUB is a diving watch, reimagined. Scuba’s smaller cousin and a great introductory watch to launch your love affair with the Mazzucato brand.
The stylish design and bold dial give every diver a legible timepiece, even in low light and poor visibility. The precision functionality comes from the uni-directional turning bezel with luminous enamel insert, and the SUB’s ultra-scratch-resistant k1 glass includes a firefly toon coating on the bot side.
Let’s jump in the time machine to about May of 2023 and I was actively planning a photography junket to Sardinia – Italy. It had been 25+ years since my last visit to the mainland including a trek to Sicily and I was obsessed about all things designed and made in Italy.
I had yet entered the horology portal on YouTube and so my keyword searches led me to the Mazzucato watches website. The idea (seriously, the compulsion) was to buy an Italian watch before I got to Italy as sort of foreplay to the overall experience. My budget was around $500+ and I wanted a beefy watch similar to my old and broken Renalto T-Rex.
On the website, the watch looked like a spec monster but after I received my order confirmation I noticed this was being shipped from Hong Kong. This punctured my ALL THINGS ITALIAN balloon. The watch did ship quickly and I now know the Mazzucato name is legit it is they are shipped from Hong Kong where I believe the final assembly is done.
This was also my first skeleton watch and even though it looks cool on my 32″ pc monitor, on my wrist it just did not really match my vibe. It is a beefy, heavy watch that makes you feel like every dollar you spent was used but it just looked strange to me. With the solid rubber branded strap, I cannot get the perfect fit on my 8″ wrist….either a tad loose or too tight. Not horribly bad but with all my other misgivings, not a watch I wear regularly. If someone gave me $300 I would sell it but doubt there is a resale market for this brand.
