Chunlei Mechanical Model 8120 – This watch can be considered a modern vintage Chinese watch. No lume, the domed crystal is not sapphire and the signed crown is unimpressive. BUT, with the roman numerals, to me, this is a nice mix of a simple, classic watch that tells time.
Most vintage Chinese watches have really small case sizes because the population back then had small wrists. This particular watch case size is 41mm, and it fits perfect on my 8″ wrist.

Budlet / Chunlei is a brand produced by Shanghai Watch Factory. It’s literal translation is Spring Bud, but the name Budlet appears on the dial of early models. Early Budlet models were first produced in late 1974 or early 1975, soon after Shanghai Watch Factory began mass production of their version of the Chinese Standard Movement. Budlet watches were intended for export. Late 1970s dials were branded with the pinyin Chunlei instead of the English Budlet. It appears that production of Chunlei watches stopped in the 1990s and resumed in the 21st century. It is a notable Shanghai brand today.
